Ying Quartet
Ying Quartet “The Ying Quartet came as close to the ideal as possible, delivering chamber music of astonishing, refreshing exaltation and exhilaration.”– The Los Angeles Times Performance February 10 The Ying Quartet says that “Our mission has always been twofold: to make classical music a relevant and vital part of American culture in all its diversity, and to do so with the highest standards of artistic integrity.” You do not want to miss the concert in their upcoming performance at 2:30 pm in Faye Spanos Concert Hall, on Sunday February 10, 2019. The Ying Quartet last performed in Stockton five years ago. They were remarkable then and will be again. The artists include Robin Scott, violin, Janet Ying, violin, Phillip Ying, viola, and David Ying, cello. As quartet-in-residence at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, the Ying Quartet teaches in the string department and leads a rigorous, sequentially designed chamber music program. One cornerstone of chamber music activity at Eastman is the noted “Music for All” program, in which all students have the opportunity to perform in community settings beyond the concert hall. The Quartet is the ensemble-in-residence at the Bowdoin International Music Festival and at Arizona State University, and from 2001-2008, the members of the Ying Quartet were the Blodgett Artists-in-Residence at Harvard University. The Ying’s ongoing LifeMusic commissioning project, created in response to their commitment to expanding the rich string quartet repertoire, has already achieved an impressive history. Supported by the Institute for American Music, the Ying Quartet commissions both established and emerging composers to create music that reflects contemporary American life. The Ying Quartet will provide a rich and rewarding chamber music concert presented by Stockton’s Friends of Chamber Music. Come enjoy the concert. Tickets are $25 and are available in the lobby of Faye Spanos Concert Hall at UOP starting at 2:00 pm, 30 minutes before the concert. Students of any age are admitted free. The audience is invited to meet the musicians at a reception following the concert. Friends of Chamber Music concerts are presented in cooperation with Pacific and its Conservatory of Music.
