Join us for a live painting demonstration of a J.C. Leyendecker master study with artist Kris Finch. While Kris is painting, he will narrate the steps he is following and will also provide commentary on specific details that help make a J.C. Leyendecker painting so extraordinary. The audience is also invited to ask questions to Kris as he is working. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to learn more about painting, or for those who simply enjoy watching as paintings emerge from the canvas.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

San Diego-based artist, Kris Finch, has created figurative representational oil paintings for the past twenty years. Kris’s artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States, appeared in the Wall Street Journal, and made a brief appearance on the television network The Learning Channel. Early in Kris’ career a teacher quickly realized his ability and recommended he also consider teaching. In 2009 Kris did just that, and ever since has been teaching students throughout Southern California.

One technique that Kris leverages is having his students practice master studies, attempting to recreate art masterpieces. An artist that Kris frequently uses as a reference in his classes is J.C. Leyendecker, as it helps students think about how composition, color, and pose push the boundaries of figurative representation in illustrative artwork.
