2nd Saturdays: Storytelling & Art for Kids
Designed for children ages 5–12
Discover the magic of stories and creativity at our monthly 2nd Saturday program! Each session pairs an interactive read-aloud with a hands-on art activity, carefully crafted for young readers and budding artists. No reservations are needed—just come ready to explore! Seating is first come, first served, and all materials are included with regular museum admission.
This month, we’ll celebrate Native American Heritage Month by exploring the connection between tradition, nature, and art. Children will:
-
Listen to The First Blade of Sweet Grass by Suzanne Greenlaw and Gabriel Frey—a gentle tale about a young Wabanaki girl learning the importance of harvesting with care and respect.
-
Create their own nature collages, painting a watercolor landscape and layering it with dried leaves, flowers, and twigs to bring their artwork to life in 3D.
The activity is inspired by the breathtaking Yosemite landscapes painted by Albert Bierstadt, whose art captured the majesty of lands long cared for by Indigenous peoples.
Come join us for an enchanting morning where stories, culture, and art come together to spark imagination!
